LT57: Left Behind (April 10, 2007)

PREVIOUSLY ON LOST…LEFT BEHIND

I need a scorecard. Kate loves Saywer. Kate loves Jack. Jack loves Kates. Jack love Juliet. Juliet loves Jack. Juliet loved Ben. Ben loves mind games.

Juliet thinks Jack is cute. Juliet is in key role. Juliet wants Ben dead. Juliet is not in a key role. Ben lives. Jack thinks Juliet is cuter…now.

Jack crashes. Jack on beach. Jack at cave. Jack in hatch. Jack on dock. Jack in aquarium. Jack in operating room. Jack in cage. Jack in Othersville. Jack in submarine. Jack not in submarine. Jack back in Othersville. Jack leaves Othersville.

See what I mean?

Do I have tons of questions for the writers now!

First, why wouldn't Jack, Juliet, Kate, Sayid and the beach survivors all move to Othersville? It's not the hatch, but it would do in a pinch. Come on! Houses, running water, electricity! If it is abandoned property, then anyone can claim it, right?

Next, how did Juliet go Kung Fu all of the sudden? Remember how "easily" Jack was able to subdue her in order to flood the hatch? Of course, she did get a pretty good punch in before it was all said and done. And while we are analyzing Juliet…a marksmen (ok, knows how to shoot a weapon)? Negotiator? Diplomat? Cook? And to top it off, a fertility doctor. Yeah, righ!

Finally, why doesn't Smokey figure out that it can go OVER the sound fence? Humans leans some trees up and over, and we know Smokey can climb pretty high to do a body slam…so slither over that thing!

SMOKEY
Some people claim that Smokey divides into three parts at the sound wall. This then might correlate to the three-headed dog guarding hell, Cerberus. That name happens to be written on the hatch door map that glowed in the dark.

Who has Smokey killed? The airline pilot and Ecko. We don't have much information on the pilot, but we know Ecko has some bad decisions in his life. Maybe Smokie goes after those who have committed murder.

That would now include Juliet! This is when Juliet lost her "innocence" and the group was prepared to put her to death. Jack's intervention is what saved Juliet in the physical sense, but not the spiritual sense, and Smokey was out there to hand out the spiritual justice! Yikes!

So, they brand her – give her the mark. Smokey can't touch her now.

Or maybe Smokey couldn't hand out justice when the girls were huddled in that tree. The reason was that Smokey couldn't pick up one for a body slam without killing the other one…because of the handcuffs. Juliet knew this and that is why someone handcuffed them.

Or, Smokey is actually three entities…think the Trinity. Maybe that would explain why we sometimes hear the cranking sound…sometimes it's solo and sometimes that combine for Power Rangers like synergy.

THE BRAND

The branding as protection crowd is getting some attention this week. Here is a possible connection:
The symbol on this coin is the one that Constantine had soldiers place on their shield since Jesus told the ruler in a dream that it would protect his army. It's called Chi Rho. And the symbol consists of two letters, the P and the X…which is the symbol for Christ.

Watch this show start to evolve towards Revelations stuff!

ANOTHER COMPANY FOR LOST PRODUCTS

Non-Dharma product! You the world is against you when Hanso can't produce all the military items you need any longer! J

The company, ALS Technologies, does exist (won't they be thrilled). The product number refers toa similar device on their website, but it might be important to note that it that product doesn't knock anyone out…it is just a smokescreen. And why couldn't Lost use one or two more smokescreens?

REC ROOM PLUS
At least the Others have fun. Notice the pinball games in the background. We have to assume that this might have been a reference to the 1970's again. Trust me, we were playing pinball in the 1970's (remember Pinball Wizard). Video games like Space Invaders came out in the early 80's and pinball took a decided down-turn in popularity.

The history lesson is in case the prop guys meant to give us two machines manufactured from 1988 and 1999. I suppose they could have gotten older games, but it's difficult to know how much to read into something…or not. So, we point it out here at Lost Tidbits.

And staying on this theme…on game is called "Revenge From Mars" and made by a Bally subsidiary called "Midway". And Midway is Mittlewerk in German, just to keep this fun!

The other game is Cyclone and features a tornado theme. Anyone else thinking Wizard of Oz reference? Actually the theme is a roller coasted called "The Cyclone". And the pinball game would play the sound of that chain cranking as it pulls the cars to the top of the first hill. A sound that reminds many of Smokey's noises.

MOUSETRAP

You might recall way back when that Locke worked in a toy store. The scene is him putting the pieces together of the game Mousetrap. Well, that game shows up on a table in Othersville.

Is Juliet going to lead the beach crew back to Othersville as I've been screaming they do? What if that is the mousetrap? They get to Othersville and then she turns the fence on, thereby trapping them INSIDE the perimeter. Hey, the Others can start over without those nosey survivors!

Or maybe the island is a trap and Locke is the best player…putting the pieces together…ready to spring the trap…

And while speaking of games, Kate was being bored with a game of Backgammon…like Locke and Walt would play.

THE HAT MAKES THE MAN…OR WOMAN

Kate in Iowa..that was nice although they reinforced the Iowa stereotype. But the hat reads "Cowboy Up" four times.

When Sawyer has that heart to heart talk with Karl he begins by punching him in the arm. "Why you do that?", says Karl. Sawyer replies, "So you'd cowboy up. Crying in the jungle…I thought you people were suppose to be tough."

And again when he says, "Michael's going to cowboy up" when referring to launching the raft.

LT56: I Feel Exposed (April 3, 2007)

PREVIOUSLY ON LOST…EXPOSE'

Wish I knew how to make that little mark above the final "e", but I don't.

Last week's show was like a typical TV show where the story can be contained within the hour. Think comedies, The Twilight Zone or nearly every other show made.

Those that have a continuing story line are called "serialized". Think Grey's Anatomy, Dallas, and even Cheers towards the end. Cheers didn't start that way. When Diane and Sam's relationship became the show rather than two cleverly intertwined and 30-minute-contained storylines…the show was over for me. Even when Miami Vice became the Sonny Crockett Saga instead of a nicely-packaged, Art Deco-splashed hour of good guys win in the final three minutes…I knew it was over.

I'm thinking about TV Land this week because this show was self-contained. You could watch it, see the mystery be set-up in the opening scene and then solved by the final frame. I was expecting Smokey to transform into Angela Lansbury and tell everyone how the spiders did it in the end. Expose was a self-contained hour of problem and solution…in the middle of a serialized series.

So, it was fun. That was my immediate thought. And then something began to happen. I kept thinking about it. Like those really good movies…you can tell if you are still thinking about the movie days later.

I kept thinking about how this TV show also had a TV show incorporated into it. Not some side prop playing on a TV screen in the background…it was included in a way where I asked myself, "Is this Lost or are we still in commercial break?"

I kept thinking about how fans have moaned about all the survivors on the beach haven't been included much. And when Lost gave us a couple, we rejected them. So this episode got bonus points from me when the TV show within the TV show's star actress uttered the line, "Everybody knows what happens to guest stars."

I could analyze further and say there was an allegory present that was very much about creativity and individuality. How it was the story of a wise, successful man whose final secret was stolen by forces which were never meant to possess and in the end, their ambition to control that force, and each other, came to no good. They found themselves paralyzed, consumed by those who continued to dare and explore, while they struggled to evoke the fortunes of another.

But then that I could just be over thinking.

History may end up calling this the best show of Season 3 for its unique approach.

And by the way, Locke can be seen the previous week watching Expose on TV in his room…we didn't know the name of the show back then, but audio says, "So the Cobra…he's back."

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?

So Paula made it to the Pearl Hatch before Locke and Company! And see what Paulo finds:

If anyone knows how to explain those numbers on the walkie-talkie's screen, let me know. And let's notice what is on the table…three rocks and a cigarette.

And by the way, did anyone else think Paula turned his flashlight back on a little too quickly?

Why didn't Paulo share this hatch information, the plot to get Jack, or the fact he has the Others' communication device? Well, if he revealed the hatch he would have been revealing his hiding place, so he had to stay quiet. But consider how Paulo could have told everyone that he found the walkie-talkie anywhere in the jungle…and not reveal his secret place? Because, like Locke, he didn't want to leave the island and risk things changing between himself and Nikky.

And like Jin, it is now time to call Paula an idiot for love!

WHAT IS IN A NAME?

It has come to my attention that Locke's father, Anthony Cooper, is the name of an 18th century philosopher, the Earl of Shaftesbury. Ok, forget the word "shaft" is in his name, as in "hatch". The interesting part is that Anthony Cooper's marriage was arranged by another philosopher of the time, John Locke. The Earl's main philosophical stance was anti-religion.

Oh, and the philosopher, Anthony Cooper, also wrote a book entitled, "Characteristicks of Men, Manners, Opinions, Times". And yes, this book was seen on Ben's bookshelf.

ROLL CAMERAS!

Did you catch the fact that this episode of Lost was directed by Stephen Williams? Same director for that episode of Expose.

HE'S A READING MACHINE

Sawyer grabbed another book to read…Agatha Christies', "Evil Under the Sun". Synopsis: A quiet holiday at a secluded hotel in Cornwall is all that Poirot wants, but amongst his fellow guests is a beautiful and vain woman who, seemingly oblivious to her own husband's feeling, revels in the attention of another woman's husband. The scene is set for murder, but can the field of suspects really be as narrow as it first appears?

ZUCKERMAN

We meet Nikki's sugar daddy last week, but he doesn't last long after Paulo served up some spicy dish. We see the newspaper carried his death and listed it as a heart attack.

This newspaper was obviously arranged for the show and it reveals the date as Thursday, September 24, 2004…two days after the plane crash! Why would the producers bother to date stamp a newspaper for us (and they do know we are watching) and then be off by two days? Of course, the news could just be reporting the story a few days after it happened.

Except, there is no Thursday on September 24 in 2004. The closest day is September 23, 2004. Perhaps this has to do with the International Date Line, so maybe Thursday is the 24th in Australia, if you know what I mean. When then adjust the crash date to September 23 as well. So maybe it's a time clue or maybe not. When Desmond went tripping back in time, maybe it altered events by a day or two?

Consider how Nikki and Paulo weren't present in Season 1 and 2. I mean they really weren't there. No one was there. Instead, something happened when the Hatch blew up to alter all events.

Jack – airline wouldn't allow his coffin on the plane so he loses a day or two
Sun – she runs off and after a couple days decides to go back
Hurley – the woman on the gate does not allow him to board
Locke: crew can't find the smaller wheelchair needed to load him on the plane
Charlie: wakes up late or the girlfriend knocks him out

And so on…they all had plausible events to cause a one or two day delay AND make the newspaper date the correct one now.

Weird, huh?

SAWYER'S HATRED IS GROWING

I believe that Sawyer is developing a real hatred for the Others. And why not? After being caged, shocked, teased, tortured, threatened, and a gun put to my head…I'd tend to not like them either. So when he discovers the walkie-talkie amount Paulo's gear and think they were working for the Others, then this might explain why Sawyer let the two die! You read that right, he let them die.

While burying them, Sawyer throws the diamonds in a surely he noticed that Nikki's hands moved.

I ASK BECAUSE I CARE

Where did Arnzt get his peanut butter jars for his bug collection…he died before they found the Swan hatch!

How did Ben and Juliet get into the Pearl hatch? It appeared to be a hallway that led somewhere, but then why didn't our survivors use it/find it?

Can anyone tell me how Paulo if full-bodied paralyzed and can still talk for a minute or two…while Nikki is not full paralyzed and can only utter, "Paulo lies"?

Do you think Ecko was in Australia to investigate a zombie could have been another person bitten by the spider?

Why doesn't anyone help Hurley and Sawyer bury the dead?

ANSWERS WE LEARNED FROM LAST WEEK

Notice the hair length! Yes, they might have called her back to do these island flashbacks (which were pretty cool)…but MAYBE things do change.

CRAZY THEORY OF THE WEEK

That Paulo and Nikki aren't dead. Personally, I can't see how that could be true, but consider this wild explanation:

Since they are paralyzed…their bodies don't require much oxygen. The heart rate is so slow that "even a doctor might miss it"…and that implies the body would need a lot less of the required air. Enough time to have Vincent come back and start digging a large hole? Just enough to help one of them to get to their feet.

Side note: depending on which one Vincent dug up first, would that one help the other one get free? I think it might depend on how he unburies first.

And keep in mind the advice from Locke, "Things don't stay buried on the island."

LT55: Deathmatch - Linus Vs. Locke

THE TEMPEST THEORY

"The Tempest" by Williams Shakespeare tells a story of two brothers. One loses his throne to the other. The former ruler and his daughter are exiled and sent off to sea in a boat surely to crash. They are saved when their ship crashes on an enchanted island. The former ruler learns the island is magical and begins to learn its secrets with help of two island inhabitants. His vision informs him that his brother, the new ruler, is passing nearby in a ship. The scorned brother raises a tempest in the sea and his brother and crew are now on this island. The first ruler separates the crew into groups and manipulates their paths until everyone is brought together before the original ruler.

This theory states that Lost has Dharma recruiters who manipulated the right people onto the plane. Events caused by the Others force the survivors into groups. Shakespeare writes at one point, "the isle is full of noises" which might correspond to the whispers.

Hey, it is as good as any others I've read.

THE ART OF ART

We get a peek at the decorations inside some of the homes. I notice a clock which kills the "no time" in Othersville idea. Paintings of the island and pictures of a younger Alex.

A woman in wicker chair in the jungle holding what appears to be a chinchilla? Didn't Ben say something about overgrown hamsters running on wheels? In fact, he said that just as Ben wheeled past this painting. Take a closer look:

Some say the woman reminds them of Karen DeGroots…Ben's mom? Could it be Alex's supposed mother who died? Or is it a portrait of Juliet?

THE MYSTERY OF LOCKE

Last week we got a snapshot of Locke's paperwork when he was getting his benefits temporarily suspended for not attending therapy

We can pick up the dates and something is wrong. Locke crashes in 2004 and they say he went into a wheelchair in 2000. But this form is dated 2002 and Locke is not in a wheelchair for this interview. Prop error? I can tell you this…a larger percentage of prop errors is the explanation for John Locke than any other character. Even this form has other contradictory dates it seems. So…are they prop errors or is someone trying to tell us something?

See, I can't forget Mr. Patchy almost telling us that the Locke he knew was not paralyzed. Two Lockes? Two time frames? Too confusing?

THINGS YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED

Remember the car that hit Michael? And pulled out in the parking lot and almost hit Locke? Well, it shows up again this week when Locke and father are in the flower shop:

Speaking of Locke's father…remember when Locke went to his apartment he dad poured a couple of drinks? Yep, MacCutheon Whiskey! Just like Widmore serves.

By the way, if you've read Atlas Shrugged think of how those $ brand cigarettes were in possession of limited group of insiders.

Did you notice the book at Ben's apartment was the same one that guy who was guarding Karl's brainwashing session was reading? "A Brief History of Time" by Stephen Hawking

And on Ben's bookshelf we recognize a Stephen King book, "The Gunslinger".

MORE TATTOOS

Remember a picture you saw of Claire in her Goth days where sample tattoos where help up in front of her? We saw one that read "Mother" and another where we could see "rley". I joked it might read Charley…but the joke is on me. It reads Hurley! What could Claire, Jack's half-sister, have to do with Hurley…can't wait until Charlie finds that tattoo on Claire!

TIME KEEPS ON TICKING, TICKING

Same clock and about one minute of film time passed. A) The filming took 40 minutes in real time and the edit missed this? B) Lost knows exactly what it is doing when it adds a date/time device onto the scene and time really does travel different here.

ALL IN THE FAMILY

Viewers are starting to wonder just who could be related to who next? The most popular guess is Locke is related to Sawyer. First, we know that con men ran in Sawyer's family and Locke's family. And recall that Locke was curious as to why Sawyer picked his alias in place of James. Maybe there is more to this.

THINGS THAT DIDN'T SEEM TO MAKE SENSE

The clocks in Ben's room must have been a continuity error in editing, right?

How the heck did Locke know where the light switch was in the sub? John did pose the concept to Ben that "for all you know I could have been a Naval commander". This was wonderful in the sense that Ben looked like JUST MAYBE he didn't know everything about everyone! Locke is becoming scarier than the Others!

Why doesn't Jack make it clearer to his friends just what is going on?

BEN VERSUS LOCKE II

Counting the time spent in the Swan hatch as the first time these two mental sparring partners took each other on, then this last episode would be Ben vs. Locke II. And oh was it a dozy.

Locked came out early and scored some points with that "I'm not here for Jack, I'm here for the sub". That was a solid landing punch.

Ben shook it off and assumed a more threatening position with "I could call for help." But Locke saw a weakness and grabbed Alex.

It was minor, but Locke won round two simply by hiding in the closet. It forced Ben to be humiliated that he couldn't control the situation.

The fighters settled into a groove and remained that way for the middle rounds. Then in the 10th, Locke landed a combination of "maybe I was a Naval commander" and "I don't want to leave the island, just blow up the sub". Ben was against the ropes in the mental ring.

In the 14th round, we got a peek of Ben's fight strategy…wear his opponent down and the strike hard. One could almost see Ben wind up for this knockout punch, "John, did it hurt?"

But somehow Locke reacted in time and partially blocked the mental jab with "I felt my back break if that's what you mean?"

As the grey matter gladiators began the final round, Ben again took his best shot by asking again "Did it hurt?" Sick bastard, that would be a penalty in Las Vegas, for a low blow.

But the destiny child Locke again avoided the majority of the damage with, "Do you mean did it hurt my feelings?" Would this be the time John Locke gets the better of Ben in the Brain Game?!!

But this was not a blocked knockout punch!!! It was setup punch…and Ben saw Locke totally exposed with, "No, I meant, did it hurt to have your own father do this to you?"

Ooooooh! Locke is dazed and confused on that one. Another flurry by Ben with "you want to stay" and "your father can't find you here". It looks like Locke is going down hard!

And to be sure, Ben delivers the final knockout punch with "let's see what came out of the magic box".

Fans got their money's worth in the Cerebral Contest and still champion, Benjamin Linus!

Locke's manager promises his man will be better prepared next time.

LT54: This Is An Escape Plan?

I have to begin at the end…

Kate's facial expressions were priceless. The excitement of seeing Jack after she came back for him was obvious. Then the utter confusion as her brain processed what it was seeing.

Me too, Kate.

One of the best cliffhangers in a long time.

YOU DON'T KNOW JACK

Let's talk Jack. He sure appears to be in a great frame of mind. Three to six days earlier (let's give the timing the benefit in the doubt and say Jack has been at Othersville for one week).Jack is leaving his cage and putting a recovering Ben on a boat.

Now he's playing catch. With Tom! What could have happened to change Jack's demeanor so drastically?

** Met his father
Nah, that would have put Jack at a head scratching mood, not let's go play catch. He'd used every opportunity to be at his father's side…if no other reason then to ask "Why dad?" a lot.

** Met his wife.
Nah, again they parted on not so good terms. Yes, HE might like to see her and hope, but I can't she Sarah running to his arms. Again, he'd be more withdrawn and in a introspective mood.

** Had it all explained to him.
This seems the most plausible…after all Cindy saw the light…even if it is "complicated". Still, she did come around.

As did Juliet although I suspect she joined under less than ideal terms. Actually, we don't know Cindy's background. We know Juliet went from unwilling participant to here and present.

A lot of people in Othersville seem to want to be there. But it isn't quite the Jones Camp. They argue at the book club meeting. Juliet and Coleen had some personality conflict. Test or no test, Juliet at one time wrote "Kill Ben" on cue cards.

On the other hand, Alex isn't easily persuaded. Nor Karl. And Pickett always seemed to be in a bad mood…hardly the Koolaid-loving guy. The relationship between Ben and Alex seems testy. In the words of Ben, "You guys have a lot of trust issues." That works both ways it appears.

So, Jack might have had the great truth reviewed and it was like Heaven…all your worries go away. I can't imagine what they could have said (and why wait to tell him) enough to convince Jack to change.

** It wasn't Jack

Ok, we have to throw out the TWINS theme again. It's possible to have a part in all this.

Some claim Jack's tattoo's were missing which would strengthen this theory. I'll be researching this further.

KEYSER SOZE

Sorry!? You pushed him, John Locke!

You think this is because Mr. Patchy was about to reveal something Locke didn't want known?

Speaking of secretive…Locke is going over the edge. OR the Roger Brown theory is right: Locke is our mole if not the #1 man, Jacob.

And while still on secrets…I don't think Danielle is on the up and up. That answer she gave Kate wasn't bad, but it didn't score well with me.

Claire is seen reading a book. The book is entitled, 'Rick Romers Vision of Astrology'. It doesn't exist. Rick is the set designer for Lost. So why a fake book? It seems to me that they didn't want us reading the book, but intended to point out the subject matter. I recall quite a bit about stars and constellations in this show and the summer game. Credit goes to the writers who have not seemed to have forgotten some mysteries of the past, but even the answers leave me with more questions.

GALAGA

It's common knowledge we have a sub that uses the sonar – which is now broken – to navigate to and from the island. Well, here is an exclusive sneak peak that the bad boy known as Galaga:

BEN SPEAKS

The actor who plays Ben offered to answer two questions. Three lucky readers would get their question asked and answered. Here they are:

Last season there was a scene where your character said, "If I told you about them, you have know idea what He'll do and He'll kill me," obviously speaking of the mysterious Him. At that point did they know that you'd go on to play the leader of the Others? Did you know that you were going to have this authority position with the Others or were you really playing that from the vulnerable standpoint?Well that was one of those days where I had to have a little chat with the director. Already by then, even that early on I thought, "there's more to me than meets the eye." I said to the director, because the director came and said, "I need you to be really terrified of Him." And I said, "Okay, I'll do it, but what if I'm Him?" And he said, "I can't talk about that," and walked away from me." So we played it as if there was someone that Ben was terrified of. You can either chalk that up to him being a good actor, if the Him in question was himself, or maybe there is somebody out there. I think there's somebody else coming down the line. In fact, there almost needs to be. This whole dance we've been doing on the border of whether Ben is a good guy or a bad guy, I think the presence of someone more powerful and more malevolent will make that really nicely ambiguous again. If our sympathy suddenly shifts toward Ben, that will be interesting.This final user question: Is there one thing that you can tell us about your character that you wish the viewers knew?Wow, that I wish the viewers knew… Oh. Something that's been sort of at the back of my mind and sort of simmering underneath my playing this season is that he's a romantic. And that he longs for a different life than the one he's leading. He's trapped in a kind of life. He's a man either born at exactly the right time or exactly the wrong time and he has to push on. He has to play the hand that he's been dealt but he may not be crazy about it. I think he wishes for a softer life and softer relationships (laughs).

DIAPERS

Anyone notice the diapers for Aaron was fashioned out of article of clothing that read "Bondi Beach", perhaps Australia's most famous. The word, "Bondi", or "Boondi" is an aboriginal word meaning "water breaking over rocks" or "noise of water breaking over rocks."

And this right before Charlie was to be breaking over the rocks.

BIRD WATCHING

Check your TIVO's…people are claiming Charlie never attached the message. Others point out that it appears the message drops from the bird's leg soon after Claire releases it. Is Charlie one of those "I don't want to leave this island" people?

I think we have proof that mind reading is a part of the Lost show. I offer up Sawyer's line when they were setting up the ping pong challenge and he looks at Nicky (Paulo's friend) and says, "Who the hell are you?"

I'm getting real tire of Locke being a hatch killer.

Or did the Others notice that everyone was out of the hatch via cameras and blow it up themselves to make it look like Locke did this? Well, in a recent opinion poll, it appears that Locke has gained the lead as the candidate for being a mole of the Others.

ANOTHER COMPUTER

So, Mr. Locke is searching the hatch and happens upon a chess game and decides the best course of action is to play it.

Later, he is given the responsibility of watching the prisoner and he decides the chess game is too much fun to resist.

We also know that Mr. Patchy tells Locke that the game cheats.

We know that Locke realizes the camera is watching him and is active.

We also know that the game is flawed in several ways. First, there was no checkmate when it first beat Locke. And there was no checkmate when Locke beat the game. Related, we know Locke was unlikely to beat the game on his second try according to the information given by Mr. Patchy and my experience with chess games.

And we sort of know that Michael interacted with a Walt on a machine that was supposed to have just one purpose.

Mix this all together and we are baking this idea: that the chess game was being played by a real person on the other end and they let Locke win. What does this imply then?

ANOTHER TWIN

Flashback with me to the season 1 finale called "Exodus". This is where Mr. Friendly (Tom) pulls up in a boat to the raft and grabs Walt. We have seen this picture before, but notice this time the TWINS:

They are the ones in the circle image. Then over Hurley's right shoulder as he boards the plane is one of the brothers who is an airline attendant!

And we have another set of twins at the end of Season 2 on the dock where Jack, Kate and Sawyer were blindfolded.
Funny, but I've always missed this Kris Kristofferson look-alikes because my eyes always focused on Alex groping Kate!

And we also have that "twin" of Jack that was in the cold Listening Post. We know it is a different actor, but the casting resemblance is uncanny.

Maybe Bad Twin deserves another read!

And while we are flashing back…remember that Cindy (another Flight Attendant) and Charlie appear to be in the front of the plane yet end up with the mid-section and tail-enders. It doesn't seem possible that this could happen…unless there were more twins aboard this plane.

ANOTHER DRINK

When Kate hands her husband the spiked iced tea it looks more yellowish:

Hurley's father seems to like his tea on the lighter side as well:

And during her English lessons, Sun asked for iced tea.

And at the book club in Othersville they are drinking a yellow drink.

Did we see the color of the liquid that Ethan gave Claire? Ethan said it was "bitter", just like Mr. Patchy apologized for.

Now Mr. Patchy offers iced tea to his guests. He called it is own "brew". Notice that Sayid didn't drink it…he raised the glass and then stopped to ask a question. We next see kate take a swallow and suddenly Mr. Patchy says it is time to stop playing games. What could this all imply?

An anagram for Iced Tea = A Deceit

That Kate has been drinking her yellow-mellow tea and had nothing to fear because she is an Other!

And before you think I'm creating a mystery…consider how the camera seems to focus on these drinks.

THINGS YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED

When Hurley's flashback was happening, a TV in the background showed a picture very similar to the one in the psychiatrist office:

You think know the candy bar that Hurley's father gave him? Bet not.

It is a "Glacier Bar" which might be a connection to the polar bars. Is it a real candy bar? Don't think so. The closest I came was the Great Alaska Glacier Bar, but it's wrapper is much different.

The motorcycle appears to be a YAMAHA, but the "Y" and the last "A" have been removed. This may simply be for legal reasons, but it is interesting to note that an AMAH is a maidservant in the east (HK, Thailand, etc.). In Hong Kong, there is a naturally occurring rock which resembles an Amah carrying a baby. It is appropriately named, Amah Rock. The entry at Wikipedia for Amah Rock has a very LOST relevant story:

According to a legend, the faithful wife of a fisherman climbed the hills every day, carrying her son, to watch for the return of her husband, not knowing he had been drowned at sea. In reward for her faithfulness she was turned into a rock by the Goddess of the Sea so that her spirit could unite with that of her husband.

Remember the kite? Turns out that some guy is famous for this authentic Thai kites. And yes, he models his designs after Van Gogh paintings!

The final one means "sky","space",void,"empty".

These four characters are taken from a famous poem written by Chairman Mao Tse-tung. It can be roughly translated as "Eagles high, cleaving sky", or more simply, "the Eagles fly up on the sky". But the poem itself has a deeper meaning. In the end of the first stanza, the poet asks, "who masters fate's rise and descent?"

I guess we have a couple of answers now like no sickness and no quarantine required! The one that grabs my attention is "Cerberus Vent".

LOST MUSIC

In my city, we had no clue how last week's show began since it was started late due to sports programming…until I watched it online. The song playing was the same song when Hurley got the van started on the island. Three Dog Nights, "Shambala".

This hasn't happened much on Lost until recently. In Desmond's flashback, we heard Mama Cass singing "Make Your Own Kind of Music". Of course, that could be from Desmond's mind when he flashed sideways, but worth noting. Hurley wasn't actually hearing Shambala at the beginning of the episode, it seemed more like background that producers selected…slightly different.

But consider this…Hurley's dad went missing for like 16 years after he rode off on that motorcycle. Could he have been a work man for Dharma and took a copy of his favorite Three Dog Night 8-track?

Granted, his dad returned after that time missing, but it is interesting to think about.

EPISODE TITLES

Most titles make good sense to me, but "Tricia Tanaka is Dead"??? At least it worked in another famous NUMBER: 8

LOST SPIN OFF

Seems as if Sawyer is keeping busy in his spare time…he recently completed work on a new Command and Conquer video game. And a campaign is started to have him play the lead role in Stephen King's book to movie, Dark Tower.

We have Danielle's map, the Blast Door map, map on back of my puzzles, and now we find another one:

SO MANY THREADS, SO LITTLE TIME

Granted, the past two shows were sort of light-weight if you are into the island mythology, but don't think the writers aren't working just as hard. Example: we saw this next picture, we likely commented to whoever we were watching it with, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of conversation about it. Too many mysteries to follow each one?

CRAZIEST THEORY OF THE WEEK

This one has to do with time, of course.

What if this is ALL a Desmond flashback? When he pushes the button, then things continue on – including Flight 815 as if none of this ever happened?

Or the flashbacks are not what has happened in the past, but what will happen in the future? This means each Survivor can choose not to get on that plane…just like Desmond was able to "purchase" the ring and not walk out of the store empty handed.

Or the time they zapped back to was like 1930's…when Moonlight Serenade was popular and able to be heard on that radio Hurley and Sayid had.

WHO DIES NEXT?

The CBS show, Survivor, not only has a name that connects with Lost, but also a habit of making us think for 50 minutes that person A is going to get voted off. It always ends up being person B.

So, while Charlie seems to be the next victim…I think it will be someone else. The trend so far seems to be redemption. As soon as Ecko or Boone or anyone finally conquers their lack of faith, they seem to die. So, it worries me a bit that Hurley seems to have conquered his curse.

Hey, it's just a guess.
