LT222: Some Follow-Up Thoughts

This posting is on the day when a new episode of LOST should be airing. In its place I’ve spent some time researching into some old theories that could use a little updating. So, here we go…

ZOMBIES

In the last post it was mentioned that the dead had to be buried or they became candidates for zombies (i.e. Christian, Claire, Yemi, etc.) The term “zombies” just sort of flew out of my head because normally I use the words like “ghost”, “angelic vision”, or other palatable terms.

It so happens that my family is finally getting caught up on the show via DVD’s. (Yeah, I’m embarrassed too! HA!) This has prompted me to drift back to some old topics and I come across the term “zombies”.

The term was discovered way back when the producers released an Easter egg that involved a page of a script. It talks about zombies attacking the Survivors. The producers said back then that this was merely a joke of theirs for Season 7. At the time the plan was for seven seasons, not six. In the script, Walt is the zombie who attacked Michael and Jin. Michael can’t bring himself to try and kill Walt – which we be hard to do if you have ever seen Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video – and so there goes the family.

Ok, a funny joke, right? Then I dug a little deeper and discovered this script was also hidden on the OceanicFlight815.com website. Then I found the mention of zombies in a hidden message was discovered for the Fight 815 lead-in game to Season 4.

I’m not suggesting this show is going to say that Walt or Christian is a zombie, but could it be some veiled and indirect reference? Recall that human nature is that when telling a lie, a portion of truth is usually found. Hmmm…

THE MOLE

You might remember that way back in the beginning when the first mole was discovered, Ethan, that everyone started pointing fingers at everyone as the next spy for the Others. Popular candidates were Rose because of her healing. Someone suggested Bernard because he didn’t crash in the jungle like Goodwin did. And so on.

The producers also contributed to this when one website sort of duplicated the monitor conversation between Michael and Walt. You saw the same dialog once you broke the password and saw Michael ask, “Who are you?” and someone (supposedly Walt) types back, “Mole”. Red herring or a little fact in there?

I remember pushing Kate as a candidate of being a Dharma/Other mole. It always bothered me that:

* She said she didn’t pass out during the crash and “saw the whole thing”

* She offered to help all the time on various treks and rescue projects

* When helping triangulate the transmission, Kate drops the transceiver and ruins Sayid’s plan

All this history came flooding back to me when I discovered similarities between Kate and Ben. I now wonder if Adam and Eve might be Kate and BEN! Yuck, but true. Here is some evidence:

* Both killed their fathers with gas

* Both are liars and manipulators

* Ben caused everyone to leave Dharma Town and did Kate when she returned for Jack

* Both are adoptive parents of children (Aaron and Alex)

* Both hold on toys from their childhood – Kate has that toy plane and Ben has that doll that Annie carved for him

* Kate drugged her husband with OJ and Ben does the same with people coming to the island

* Kate had license plates in the trunk of her car and Ben has tons of passports

* Both appear weak only to become fighters a moment later

* Ben seems to be appreciative of Kate like when she swipes Naomi’s phone from Jack and says once, “At least someone knows what they are doing.”

* Ben knows that Jack has been trying to crash again on the island which indicated Kate might have told him since she is the only one Jack shared this information with

* Both were prisoners – Ben in the Swan Hatch and Kate in a bear cage

* Both use con games well – Kate with Cassidy and others; Ben every day of his life it seems

* Both are great at reading people

* Ben mentions that Ana Lucia is “good” because Goodwin vouches for her, and Locke tells Kate he tried to vouch for her

* Both think they are not killers and only do so out of circumstance

* Kate seems to trust Ben such as when he offered her breakfast on the beach – would you? We know she ate because Sawyer comments she tasted like strawberries

* And we have had other clues, like in the “Hunting Party” we see a box on the coffee table that also appears in Kate’s house in “What Kate Did”.

* And in the “Pilot” episode people are learning everyone’s name. According the script, Sawyer had not told Kate his name, but when she runs back to the polar bear shooting she shouts his name.

* And the pregnancy test on the flight for Sun to use. It was Kate who wondered out loud about who would bring that…now we learn that Kate was a candidate for that test!

* And recall in “Eggtown” when Kate is shaking Miles for information about what the Freighters know about her. Miles says they know she is a criminal and Kate looks RELIEVED…why unless she was happy they didn’t know her true identity as a mole!

Well, you get the idea…

OTHER CLUES IN HINDSIGHT

Let me know if you have other clues or nagging thoughts from way back when that might now fall into place. For example, it always seemed odd that someone cut up the Swan Hatch Orientation film and hid it in a Bible. But if the time jumpers were trying to send some kind of message to the future, then it might make perfect sense now.

Or when Locke had that vision with Boone where he saw a small plane crash. In hindsight we now know it was a future Locke witnessing the past.

Or what about the Numbers playing on the radio tower prior to Danielle’s arrival in 1988? Some say it could be Hurley’s voice saying those Numbers and regardless of that fact, some one stamped those numbers in the Swan Hatch cement prior to 1988…where Hurley now finds himself.

In “The Looking Glass” Bonnie tells Charlie that the code was programmed by a musician. At the time we think, “Lucky for Charlie he knows the notes to Good Vibrations”…but what if he was the musician?

Or when Harper tells Juliet that she looks just like a former love interest of Ben. And of course, Ben tells Jack that Juliet looks a lot like Sarah. Hmmm…
