LT124: Passing Thoughts
We have noticed how Keamy seemed to be pretty well prepared for what he was about to find on the island. He could have then come prepared. Perhaps he had a miniature sonar force field like the fence that encompassed Othersville. Or maybe he had some other possession that kept him save…like, oh…maybe a black and white rock?
ALMIGHTY BRUCE GERNON
If you haven’t heard of Bruce Gernon before now, it might be worth a search on the Internet. He is the person who claims to have flown a distance in 45 minutes that normally takes 75 minutes. This flight was anything but a normal straight-line to make the time even more surprising for he had to dodge storm clouds along the route.
It seems as if he runs into special clouds that behave unlike what he had witnessed before. They would change shape rapidly for a cloud. Tunnel would form within the cloud. At times, the unusual shaped clouds could be found in pairs – with his little prop-plane in the middle.
He reports heavy electromagnetic fields that rendered his equipment useless. He observed several changes in the light in what he describes as “shades of grey” or “greens like an electronic fog”. The most odd of all reported observations was that the fog would form and seem to attach itself to an object – his plane.
NOTE: Pick up the short story by Stephen King called “The Mist” and read his description of his fog. It is the best description of what Gernon was talking about. Yeah, this is the one made into the movie and I never saw it. But a book is always better at describing something. In short, it “moved oddly”.
I’m sharing this because someone recently suggested that the storyline of LOST is borrowing heavily from this guy’s account.
GAME UPDATE
The Project Game this summer is moving into Test 3. It will remind the older members of the audience of Asteroids as you have to avoid being hit for 100 seconds. The longer you avoid the asteroids, the faster they move.
Like earlier tests, there are always cheats. In this test you can right-click to pause which can come in handy. The Geek Squad found some letters and numbers and plugged them into an anagram machine. They ended up with some musical notation of the musical term “lento”. The term means “music in a slow tempo”. Of course, typing that word in during Asteroid Attack slows the rocks speed down. Are they moving slower or is the timer moving slower? Hmmm…
We also got a little warning from Octagon Recruiting about a hacker named Black Swan.
TRIVIA TIME
Each blog I’ll try to come up with a piece of trivia that 99% will read and think, “I didn’t know that.” And of course, it should be LOST related. Like this one:
Kevin Tighe is the actor who played Anthony Cooper on LOST. Cooper is John Locke’s father.
That you knew, but did you know…
Kevin Tighe guest starred on Law and Order and played a character also named Cooper?
Enjoy,

LT123: The World is Folding
We are on the second test for recruits. The tests are timed-based, of course, so the faster connections have a better chance of scoring. Players can also earn bonus points for recruiting other people to the site.
An interesting discovery is that letters appeared on the site that seemed to be a glitch. However, after enough letters were shown one could come up with an anagram that said, “I am on the inside”. Wonder what that means?
PRELIMINARY SCREENING
When the summer game began, applicants were asked a series of questions such as, “You see a tortoise lying on its back, struggling, and you're not helping -- why is that?"
This might ring a bell if you are fan of the movie “Blade Runner”. In the movie, a device called the Voight-Kampoff Machine, is a device where people are asked a series of questions. The claim is that with enough questions a person can be determined to be a replicant or human.
One of the questions in the movie is “You're in the desert, you see a tortoise lying on its back, struggling, and you're not helping -- why is that?"
The connection is there between movie and LOST. It goes one step further in that the movie says that within 20-30 questions the determination of replicant can be made. However, a replicant name Rachael takes over 100 questions to make the discovery. Rachael is the name of main character in the LOST summer game, The Lost Experience.
The same question also shows up in an episode of Stargate and the movie, 6th Day.
The author of the book which is the origin of Blade Runner is Philip K. Dick. The sci-fi writer is known for several books-to-movies including Total Recall, Minority Report, Next, Imposter, Paycheck, and Scanner Darkly.
Why would Dharma Recruiting be using a Voight-Kampoff Machine questions?
GOT ORIGAMI
Invites to Dharma Recruiting at Comic Con where given some fliers that included on the back some instructions on how to do origami. The shape when completed was that of a swan. This particular design was done by a physicist named David Bohm. He was a pioneer in thought control and author. His book, The Holographic Universe, discusses a model of the universe that deals with infolding and enfolding space – very LOST-related. A little more digging into David Bohm might be worthwhile.

LT122: Maybe I'm Just Like My Father
LOST has made it clear long ago that family ties and daddy issues were a theme throughout the show. Someone has proposed that we are examining the sins of the father…in one example, John Locke. The sin in his and most examples is killing someone. John broke the family tradition by not killing daddy – Cooper.
Once could easily wonder how be an accomplice breaks a cycle of sin, but maybe it is the specific sin of murder that needed to stop. Although tempted by the riddles of Benjamin Linus, John did not give into the temptation.
The Bible tells that God will visit the iniquity of your fathers to the FOURTH generation.
Notice that Ben wanted the killing of Cooper to happen with a knife. This might explain why Richard Alpert was so upset that John picked the knife out of the selection offered as young child.
Let’s not forgot the literary references to Brothers Karamazov which deals with sons taking out revenge on their abusive father. Ben was first given that book to read when he was using the alias “Henry Gale”. My we have come a long way!
BEN KILLED HIS DADDY
Sort of on a depressing thread, but an interesting question popped up recently, “Did Ben kill his father for himself or someone else?”
My first thought was that Ben knew of these time loops and course corrections and was doing his part. Not liking his father made the task easier, but it seems as if he did it for a higher purpose…like Jacob.
Has Richard just used Ben to accomplish his own agenda? Who was the person who handed John Locke the folder with all the historical information of James? It was Richard.
The difficulty is determining if Richard was testing people or prodding them? And this then makes me think of the talking ghosts we have seen (Walt, Goodwin’s wife, Christian, Charlie, Claire, etc). Which side are these manifestations on?
MONEY TALKS
Matthew Fox signed a deal that sends his pay to $225,000 per episode. That’s a 50% raise for anyone who is counting. The 42-year old is now sitting on an island of cash!

LT121: Puzzle Time
The summer game is now underway. It is a spatial puzzle that you must solve within 100 seconds. I got a 72, so let me know if you score higher! Here is a snapshot of the test screen:
As always, the hints might be hidden. Possible clues found so far include the name of the test, "Pressurized Spatial..." which is meant to tell you "Press Spacebar". Doing so brings up a little animation, but hard to make sense of it all so far.
I'll keep you posted.
OLYMPICS
Have you been enjoying the Olympics? I'm sure you picked up a bit about the Chinese gymnastics team having possible underage participants. The Chinese quickly reminded everyone that passports are legal identification to be used to determine ages.
If you read my blog, then you know I'm the kind of person to find a LOST connection anywhere and everywhere. Even this Chinese Olympic scandal.
For example, the legal age to compete is 16. Get it? A LOST number.
And was it just coincidence that they accept passports? Because Michael has a passport:
Click on any picture to see a larger version. Look at the bottom. The code begins with "HNSO". I'm thinking HANSO. And you might recall Joanna as the woman who drowned in Season 1 after Boone, then Jack, tried to rescue her. They found her items and burned her...guess...passport:
Look at the code closely...HNSO. This matches Michael's Dharma-produced-get-on-the-Freighter passport. And you know Ben had a few in his secret room.
Check out the upper-right corner...yep HNSO. This must mean the Chinese are in on this! HA!
REWIND
Why did the Orchid Orientation tape rewind? It could be a reference to going back in time, but Ben moved forward in time. Of course, he might be the exception because he was banished for turning the Wheel.
And we know Ben landed in the desert and the island is not there. Many have offered dipoles to guess where the island will be and Ben's location is the dipole. If we use opposites now since Ben jumped forward and the Orientation taped went backwards...then Ben physically moved to a prior location but forward in time.
This suggests the island moved forward in position and backwards in time...to 1978?
SCIENCE NEWS
I'm guessing if you read this blog, you might be interested in interesting news about electricity. Intel has figured out how to have wireless electronic devices. Yeah, no plugs. No more wall outlets required to run laptops, lamps, etc.
The article says, "Electricity was sent wirelessly to a lamp on stage, lighting a 60 watt bulb that uses more power than a typical laptop computer."
Check out the whole story here: http://news.yahoo.com/story//afp/20080821/ts_afp/usitinternetenergychipcompanyintel
Pretty cool.

I WAS THINKING ABOUT TIME
My fantasy football draft is coming up and made me think about time. I got to thinking about the NFL combine they hold for rookies each spring. They put the college kids through drills like speed tests in the 40 yard dash. 32 team scouts with stopwatches…a player runs and we get 32 different time recordings. Which one is correct? They all are. The explanation for why they are all correct will explain some of the "rule" on LOST. I really do think that what we believe is a flashback may not be so. Well, it could be TRUE to you, the observer.
A true chronological order of the show would be very enlightening.
TIME MACHINE
With the new Cheng video from Comic Con going around, I wondered if Daniel wasn't an orginal member of Dharma. Maybe when the purge came along, he jumps into a time machine and zips back to an earlier day and time.
The producers have hinted that there is a good reason to explain how Daniel knew about the gas at the Tempest hatch. Has he been here before?
Could the purge be an event that wasn't suppose to happen and now Time is course correcting things? Could it have taken this long to fix things? Consider that changing the past could have a ripple effect and there could be a lot of events that need to be adjusted and put back in their proper place to avoid the purge on the next go around. An effort like that would take a lot of people helping to say...oh, push certain people on a certain flight!
NEW SHOWS
Came across an interesting Fall show that you might like if you like LOST. It is called Gemini Division. What appeals to me is that it will be on-line only, so you can watch it when you have the convenience. It suggests that the story will be updated every weekday, so maybe it could be worth a few minutes every day.
Here is the link which includes some information for you to decide if this is your sort of thing:

Speaking of new shows...based on my devotion to LOST you might throw my opinion to the side, but like the Jacob, I've made a list of the best contenders.
1. The Fringe - another JJ Abrahms show, so why not?
2. My Own Worst Enemy - Christian Slater plays two personalities that don't realize the other exists
3. Dollhouse - not righly recommended, but has some sci-fi potential
4. Eleventh Hour - looks a bit creepy...reminds me of Millenium show a few years back
5. Life on Mars - guy is in accident and when he wakes up he is a cop in 1972, for those over 30 the soundtrack, leisure suits and muscle cars might be reason enough to watch.
Must admit, the list is a bit disappointing this season.
Enjoy,

LT119: Fun and Games
As you might be aware, LOST recently came out as a video game. While not gospel to the show, the producers were involved and strongly suggested the game shows a part of the Swan Hatch that we never saw on the show. It shows what was cemented-shut behind the wall. The wall that attracted Jack’s key. Here is a screen snapshot:
The name in the game is the Incident Room. Remember the incident from the Orientation video and Danielle’s term for the sickness?
By the way, I’m starting to really think Danielle was in the Dharma Group, escaped when the purge came and actually was pregnant by Ben days before the attack came. Since then, she has been going crazy…slowly. I’m going to review the footage of when Ben and Danielle first meet for any visual clues. Other than the marital observation that there are times I’d like to shoot an arrow into my spouse’s shoulder from behind!
SPEAKING OF GAMES
The summer game, The Project, is in full steam since Comic Con. The secret video release ends with an odd frame or two. See below.
Is that a name? It looks like whatever writing is there is superimposed over the ABC official logo – where the reflection looks like a cityscape, not an island.
If you have ideas, drop a comment.
Enjoy,
KC
