LT288: Plotting the Plot

THE PLOT THICKENS

In the last TIDBITS post we learned that a comedian turned painter named Paul Scheer was being told to stop creating his LOST-inspired artwork (including the Polar Bear painting seen in the last post) without authorization.

I quickly typed in Ronie Midfew Arts into Google and found his page at http://roniemidfewarts.com/i/ and there is just this logo:

When one hovers over the logo, a message can be read as such:

It seems that August 15 will be a pivotal day in the life of Mr. Scheer and the LOST family. Scheer’s velvet paintings will be sold online at http://www.damoncarltonandpolarbear.com/

Currently there are over 15 links (remember the logo sub-title about 16) on this site, so that should fill your days for awhile.


SEASON SIX PROMO

As of this writing we have learned that the title of Episode 1 will be, “LA X”. It was pointed out that there is a space between “A” and “X”, so we would be rash to jump to the conclusion that this is a reference to the airport in Los Angeles.

It could simply mean there is some sort of variable found in LA. Or I like to think of “X marks the spot” where some treasure or major piece of the LOST puzzle can be found. Hmmm…


LATEST NOT-SO-CRAZY THEORY

With Comic Con and the new summer game, it seems the theorists are reinvigorated with ideas. Here is one of the best ones…

LOST is telling the truth…always has…always will. But…

I’m reminded of news lately about the truth in photography. One example is from the last Olympics where that little Chinese girl was lip-synching the song. They put her out there because she “looked better” while the better voice was backstage doing her part.

Also in the Olympics we learned that the TV shots on NBC add CGI-added fireworks.

A story on NPR discussed photography that has been altered in this Photoshop era. However, it seems that images from several decades past had been staged. We aren’t talking average Joe, but some of the more famous pictures taken. The ones that moved a country to action or inaction. Amazing how much influence media has.

But the point behind this theory is that everything is perception and perspective. A photographer tried to explain that an angle of a shot is in many ways like Photoshop cropping. Had the picture taker widen the view to see normal life, then the huddled mass along a bullet-riddled wall wouldn’t have quite the impact. If another photographer caught the first with tripod and hollering out orders, would that have worked as effectively for change? Probably not.

And so this debate relates to this LOST theory in that the producers have cheated in some ways. They have cropped the image, truncated the dialog and abbreviated the meaning. Season 6 then will widen those angles, elongate the conversation and elaborate on the fuller meaning. And the season will do this several times.

We have been teased with this all along with the flashbacks filling in a puzzle piece which makes us think, “OH! That’s why!”.

And it will continue, but likely in a rapid pace like we’ve not seen before. I expect many of us will think we have the understanding only to see a completely different point of view.

Think of the airplane crash…

…we’ve seen it from Ben’s point of view as he sends Ethan and Goodwin off to die.

…we’ve seen it from Locke’s point of view as he wiggles his toes.

…we’ve seen it from Jack’s point of view as he self-anoints himself as The Fixer of all that is broken.

I suspect Season 6 will show us a few more point of views and in the end…nothing did change as Daniel predicted. The bomb blew, the hatch imploded, the past stayed the same. However, our view, our perspective of events will radically change based on what we are about to see.

This theory is worth remembering.

LT287: The Summer Games Are On

This is a “real” painting done by Paul Scheer (who makes a living as a comedian) and given to Damon and Carlton at this year’s Comic Con. Afterwards, Paul gets a cease and desist order from some art gallery named “RONIE MIDFEW ARTS”.

Of course, Ronie Midfew Arts, is an anagram for “Widmore Fine Arts”. Of course.

LT286: August Is Starting To Heat Up

LOST UNIVERSITY

As you can tell the summer has been a bit slow for all things LOST. You can imagine my excitement when I stumbled on this website: http://www.lostuniversity.org/

Can’t make out if this is a summer game or just some hype for the final season, but it should give you plenty to digest over the next few days.

The early feedback says they are finding plenty of interesting things (and people). Start with that guy under the tree.


TIDBITS NEWS

With Finals week in school this week (yeah, summer semester) and just being months from the season start, TIDBITS will be slowing down its postings. You can look for it weekly, plus any breaking news – so you do have to come back often to check. And while you are here, why not click on one of the ads as a nice way of saying “Thanks”. I’m just a few clicks away from the next LOST-threshold of 16,000 hits.


MY HOPE FOR SEASON 6

My hope is that they answer a lot of the dangling questions. Or at least promise us a book of answers shortly after the series is over. I want answers to things like:

-- The shooting while in the canoes – who did Juliet peg?

-- How does Radzinsky get to the Swan hatch and then die?

-- Good explanation for Juliet surviving the fall – or is it just Fate?

-- In the end will the island really be “alive”?

I’m sure you have some questions, post them and give me something to explore this Fall.


CRAZIEST THEORY LATELY

You won’t believe this one. A theory is going around that suggests LOST is mirroring real-world events a lot closer than you might suspect. In a sense, they suggest the already “real-world feel” to the show is evidence. The supporting “games” do what they can to hint at real fringe science, behind-the-scenes organizations, and government involvement.

It is likely just a theory for the fun of it, but then it made a prediction. Of course, we can’t prove it until April 29, 2010. But it should be fun waiting for that get here – and you noticed it will be during the LOST season 5.

The prediction is that there has been (or will be, I only briefly reviewed this) a Global Blackout – called GBO – at which time strange things happened but hidden from everyone’s knowledge.

Heck, if this theory doesn’t work out, it would make a good basis of a new TV show.

LT285: People Talking

LOST PANEL IN SAN DIEGO

The producers of LOST have spoken recently about the final season. The big revelation is that we will see characters we have not seen much since the first season. Hmmm...

Here is the interesting part:

The show will also employ a new narrative device that’s unique to the final season."The time travel season is over, the flash forward season is over,” Lindelof said. “We're going to do something different."

The convention has wrapped up and we will do the same for the LOST panel as soon as my school work gives me a chance. Free advice: never take courses during the summer!


FILM

I did find some time to squeeze in a move that I've been wanting to watch for about five years. It is called "Pi" as in 3.14...

Someone said that LOST fans should see it and it was thought provoking. Well, the rest of the family didn't care much for it, but I'll soon share some correlations soon after I watch it a second time!

LT283: Pilot Still Topic of Discussion

PILOT CLUE

With the talk surrounding the Perception Theory we got on the pilot – the first episode, the actual pilot, Desmond being a pilot, etc. I then received some feedback that suggested the clue from the first show was actually that Jack Shephard did not crash, but flashed!

I’ll need to rewatch Ajira 316 but it was clear some people left the plane prior to the landing. The clue might be that Jack also flashed. This takes us back to Kate claiming she saw the whole thing…in other words, she did not flash!

The ramifications are interesting and endless, but it deserved a follow-up to our most recent conversation.


CLASH OF THE THEORIES

You might recall that TIDBITS was on a kick a couple months back with the Computer Theory. I still don’t want to lose track of that because one way to make the Perception Theory and all the other theories work together might still be something related to a computer. For example, the time travel is just strange stuff, right? What if we shift our perception to the point where we normally are which is: time travel can’t happen. Now make that fit in the show. What do we have remaining? Well, that is the big question, but what if it is just a bunch of virtual reality computers involved in some memory altering experiment.

Keep this point in mind: even a lie usually contains a nugget of truth. The challenge is often that we focus on the wrong thing. What if the really important things is not strange time travel but the emphasis on Dharma’s experiments. It seems like we forget some of the earlier season’s concepts.

Maybe I’ll get back to the computer theory this summer.
