LT269: Sneak Peeks

CHARLIE’S BROTHER

It seems that Charlie’s brother, Liam, just may have been giving us a sneak peek when he was seen in a flashback. Check out the image on his t-shirt:

Is that our statue on the island? Perhaps the producers have known and planned all this from the beginning. Or it just happens that one dog head looks like every other dog head.

2010 TEASER

The consensus is that the eye we saw in the teaser for Season 6 belongs to Jack. The implication might be that we will begin the final season where we started…with Jack on his back in the jungle.

Some people are going as far as suggesting it is the exact same shot used in the Pilot episode. However, the teaser shows the eye closing where LOST begins with Jack’s eye opening.

Let the theories begin!

VENDING MACHINE

In the flashback with Jacob and Jack at the hospital, did you notice that the candy next to the Apollo bar was named after one of the producers?

PARAPHRASING JACOB

Since this post is entitled, “Sneak Peeks”…

“Help me, Kate! Help me”

Sorry, it is going to be a long off-season.

NUMBERS GAME

4 8 15 16 23 42

Yeah, we know them, we love them. But what do they represent?

If we use the Bible and the first book of Aaron’s uncle we find this:

Genesis chapter 4 is about birth – Claire giving birth to Aaron

Genesis chapter 8 is about building a boat – Michael and the raft

Genesis 15 and 16 is about Abraham and Sarah being childless – island infertility

Genesis 23 is about Sarah dying and being buried in a cave where later her husband would be buried beside her – Adam and Eve in the cave

Genesis 42 is about Jacob and his sons – ok, we know about Jacob…now what is this about his sons?

LT268: LOST is Real Life

BREAKING NEWS

Every once in awhile I come across an article that triggers my LOST sensors. Here is one:

LT267: Weaving Connections

BOOKS

Dyanna writes and asks about the books read by Amy and Sawyer. The reason you couldn’t find much is that there isn’t much out there on them. For some odd reason, no one can identify them. Personally that seems odd as the titles spots are shown.

I’ll keep my eyes open as this seems like an interesting challenge to take on. Keep checking back to see if I can learn more.

By the way the episode you are referring to is “Namaste”.

RAMIFICATION OF REANIMATION

Here is a theory floating around: Is it possible John died on Flight 815? Assume that Smokey is the Black Shirt then John could have been possessed immediately. Now the journey of becoming the leader seems less important, but the main idea here is that we have overlooked some critical component.

Are those that heal the ones that are possessed and already reanimated? This would then include Rose. She doesn’t seem as evil as the others we have seen influenced by Smokey (think the French team).

There is the part where John can’t seem to kill his father and has to recruit Sawyer to do the dirty work. And would this mean that Richard is following the Black Shirt and this explains his support of John?

Regardless of when John becomes a part of Smokey it does seem at one point that there are THREE John’s on the island. He is in the coffin, he is becoming the leader and he sees his old self shot in the leg. Isn’t there something about a trinity in the Bible, too?

Speaking of reanimation…what about Jacob coming back to life? He appears to Hurley in 2008 as he leaves the jail and gives him a guitar case. Yet, he died in 2007 in the fire. Hmmm…

WEAVING A TALE

We see Jacob weaving a tapestry shown below:

The interpretation is “May heaven grant you in all things your heart's desire". Of course, there is always some debate with interpretation. Another popular wording is, “May the gods grant thee all that thy heart desires".

The second version is also a quote from the book, “Odyssey”. It happens to be line 180 if those numbers mean anything to you.

It appears that Richard is the benefactor of this blessing as he can live without aging. This then reminds me of Jacob blessing Jin and Sun at their wedding. And let’s not forget that while Sun and Jin have been relegated to secondary roles, that Sun is very unique in that a) her father has been a major player in the Hanso Foundation from the beginning and b) she is the only 815’er who didn’t flash on Ajira.

So why weave a message in Greek? If you follow the timeline from ancient Egypt it leads to Greek civilization and then Latin. It this a clue as to the timeframe when Jacob needs the tapestry to be used? Recall that Ilena is holding a piece of this – that could come into play later.

On a religious angle, we know that the Old Testament was written when Egypt was a major power and had its language. The New Testament is like a mirror image of the Old such as love instead of law. The New also has a message of inclusion of Gentiles versus the exclusive club of the Old. And we note the New was written in the Greek language.

KATE COMING FULL CIRCLE

Where the Jacob flash backs more revealing that first thought? Consider that Kate stole a lunchbox with the theme, “New Kids on the Block”. Then years later she steals a baby, aka “new kid”, aka Aaron.

With LOST being about mirrors and reflection and what not…could Vincent be a clue? GOD…DOG. I’m just saying that a rewatch this summer might be a required activity.

WANT TO MAKE A BET?

Anyone care to make a bet that Charlie returns next season? Consider that Jacob gave Hurley the guitar case. Sun finds the Driveshaft ring. Could the song, “You Are Everybody”, be a tribute to Jacob?

Of course, we can make an argument for Hurley being the “bridge” to Jacob as well as Jack, Claire…ok, just a thought.

LT266: Taking Another Look at the Incident

DOUBLE VISION

Greg, a faithful reader of TIDBITS, is going to love this one. Check out the three pictures of the feet of the statue.

(Photos are from an external website that I lost the citation for. These are not mine and the credit belongs elsewhere)
It seems as if we may have another one of those prop “adjustments”. I’m going to freak if in the end they tell us to slice the show into two shows like every time it rains, or switches from day to night or every 8 minutes or something. Then watch it make sense in parallel. Now that would be tricky.
POSSIBLE OFF-SEASON GAME

A video showed up on the LOST YouTube channel. It pointed to a Twitter account that includes postings that amount to please to Jacob. One post mentioned that “karma” was involved as Widmore’s company stocks were dropping. But isn’t everyone’s?

I’ll keep you posted if we hear anything more.

SUBTLE HINT

Anyone notice that Bernard offered Juliet tea? Then she held her hand over her stomach. Did that mean she wasn’t hungry or that the baby will be fine? Hmmm…

BLACK ROCK SHIP

Anyone notice that it wasn’t storming when we saw the Black Rock? That counters the painting at the auction. And it counters the idea that a wicked storm blew the ship so far inland.

Jacob appears to have caused the ship to find the island. Were these recruits for Jacob’s purpose? Did they split sides and fight over possession of the island? Is this a microcosm of human’s nature?

Someone said to think Noah’s Ark.

ILENA’S INJURY

Recall that Ilena was in the hospital bed with her face bandaged. Could the surgery have altered her appearance? That means she could be almost anyone prior to the hospital stay. What if the show how that accident happened and we learn Ilena was really someone else. Maybe Nadia?

LT265: Pieces of the Puzzle

THERE’S NO SMOKE WITHOUT A FIRE

Someone suggested that Christian is Smokey because when Jack was off-island he saw his father’s image in the waiting room of the hospital. This was because he was lured to the lobby to locate the origin of the beeping – a smoke alarm. Why else would the alarm be going off if there wasn’t smoke present? And there was, Smokey Christian Shepherd.

PROP ERRORS OR CLUES

Thanks, Greg for the link of the site that tracks these things. I don’t know if you caught it or not, but the cabin Ilena burned down had the dog painting in it. You probably noticed the ash was a different color than before. But did you notice the picture frame around the dog painting also changed?

FLASH AT THE END

When the season ended it appeared that Juliet set off the bomb (which is impossible the way she did it, but hey, that’s for another conversation). I say “appeared” because we saw the light…bright, white light. Any bets that the people present took another time flash? In other words, no one was disintegrated by the bomb because they were all flashed to another time and place.

DOES THIS PIECE FIT?

Remember when Desmond began his mental flashes? He falls while painting and Penny thinks the red paint is his blood? Check out the picture from that scene:

Look closely and you’ll see a white and black rock on the table. Do we have our Adam and Eve?

DID YOU SEE THIS CLOTH?

In one scene Ilena hands Bram a piece of cloth. Here is a shot of that:

If you notice this is the statue. It also resembles the rug that Jacob was weaving. How did Ilena get it?

I thought just popped into my head. If Widmore can send out multiple resources to locate the island, why couldn’t Hanso? If this show is going to come full circle it would seem the family that was at the start would be at the end. Could Ilena and Company being a Hanso operative?

LT264: I’m Listening

As you might imagine there is a lot of chatter going on from the season finale last week. Much of it is coming from comments and emails. So let’s jump right in and address some of these topics first.

BIBLE SISTERS

TIDBITS mentioned that perhaps Kate and Juliet could be related or half-sisters. Ms. Wendy, author of the blog “It’s About Bunnies” found at
http://mswendy.wordpress.com/, builds on this by correlating two sisters in the Bible who fought over Jacob’s attention: Rachael and Leah. Oh, if Kate mentions a sister named Leah, then Ms. Wendy gets bonus points.

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

My favorite Librarian leaves a comment about my use of Esau to represent the black-shirted man sitting with Jacob in the opening shot of “The Incident”. He prefers the name Jacob for both men. The idea is to strengthen the concept of black versus white, free will versus destiny and mirror images.

In honor of his dedication, let’s do the same thing: Light Jacob and Dark Jacob.

It has been awhile since I’ve pushed my Supercomputer Theory, but now seems like a good time to remind you that computers think in black and white, off and on, and digital. Now watch a third Jacob show up in a grey shirt!

**

In a follow-up post, the Librarian shares a theory that states Light Jacob has one continuous timeline – one beginning with one end. Where as Dark Jacob is the product of several loops and never getting it quite right.

I’m not sure I subscribe to the point of view. One issue this brings up is that it is being suggested Light Jacob is done for as he becomes BBQ in the bowels of the Temple. If I could “peek around the corner” of what the Librarian is getting at, then maybe he is thinking the Light Jacob will be resurrected – an analogy to Jesus Christ. If not, then it feels wrong that Light Jacob is charcoal.

Another problem with the proposed theory is maybe semantics. The cycle of repeating one’s mistakes does not necessitate a time cycle. Heck, I’m still struggling with not cracking my knuckles in public, but I haven’t lived several lifetimes…at least none that I’m aware of. So if the theory is simply that Dark Jacob never learns his lesson, then I’m on board. This then provides with a typology to Satan.

Let the battle begin!

POSSESSION

The Librarian is on a roll…he posits that we may see Locke versus Locke next season. More correctly, Light Locke versus Dark Locke (can I call him Locke Lite…just 64 calories! HA!).

Again, I have to read between the lines, but this took my mind to possession. Yeah, exorcism stuff. Well, maybe not that extreme. And before you pooh-pooh this additive consider how most of DO belief in some small, inner voice that guides us.

This concept has circumstantial evidence to support it. We saw how Danielle’s crew appeared to take on a different persona. Everyone was noticing while missing the point, that Locke was different. Hey, does this imply Jack’s possessed too? Hard to say if the change is from within or from without.

Maybe the Librarian is suggesting that a supernatural being can jump from one corporeal body to another. I’m going to freak if the Locke they dumped out of that metal box begins to wake up!

PROP ERRORS

Greg continues to notice prop errors. He observes that the clothing and Sun and Jin’s wedding changes. And he notices Kate’s timeline is altered.

I actually think I saw a site which tracks these noticeable alterations. I’ll keep my eyes open for it, so keep checking back this off-season.

I’m with Greg. In the end we may get this Sixth Sense kind of ending where we are forced to run out and buy the DVD’s and re-watch to see all the clues we missed.

MICHAEL ADDS HIS THOUGHTS

Michael prefers to think of the two men as Jacob and the Angel. In this scenario you have a mortal man versus an angelic being. Can’t help but notice the person suggesting this is named Michael. Talk about coincidence. HA!

From this perspective we might consider Job’s struggle with Satan in the Bible. Well, we might as well include every person who as ever lived and their battle with choice. Decisions…consequences. Decisions…consequences. (Bonus points if you can name the TV show that last quote is from!).

Speaking of points, these posts are forever implanted on some supercomputer (again with the computers) so when the final season unfolds, we are going to hand out some awards to the TIDBITS reader who comes the closest.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT SMOKEY

MDJ observes that Dark John (let’s keep the theme going here) is probably Smokey. This would fit the same M.O. with Yemi (Eko’s brother) and Alex.

He further ponders that Miles could stumble upon the dead bodies of Christian and Claire. We already know that Alex’s body was found by Miles. She couldn’t have been in the Temple chastising Ben and be in the ground.

Of course, this seems to offer some insight as to why Richard wanted the body of those killed. He appears to know that until buried, Smokey can come along and borrow these shells. While I like the this general explanation, it leaves some questions about the Dharma Pit. Yeah, we saw Horace in a dream sequence and those people would serve less beneficial than say Christian. But let’s face it, most the people Christian has appeared to don’t know him from…well, Adam. Funny how these related topics keep cropping up naturally. Hmmm….

By the way, someone suggested that the final events is what "created" Smokey. However, that was quickly put down when it was pointed out that the Dharma Initiative had the sonic fence in place prior to these events. Of course, that assumes the fence wasn't meant to keep out the island's wildlife as suggested during the Registration process!

**

For the official LOST TIDBITS Awards Banquet at the end of the series, you should hear MDJ’s final season guess:

“Here’s an idea for how the writers could ruin the final season…the season opens with the oceanic 6 on a boat dressed in old time clothes…the camera starts off with a tight shot of the group so we can see all the survivors, then the camera pans out and we see that the boat is the Black Rock and that the oceanic 6 have gone back in time and are starting this the “destiny loop” over from the beginning.”

The show’s original title was “The Circle”.

NEXT ON TIDBITS

As you are aware, TIDBITS is going reduce its postings during the off-season. The projected schedule you can look should be something like this:

Saturday/Sunday – one post on the weekend for sure. I have the greatest amount of time.

Midweek – maybe half the time there will be two posts in a week.

Breaking News – yeah, you never know. By the way, you can sign up for the RSS feed at the bottom of this page. That will send you an alert when the content changes so you never miss a posting.

Based on this fluid schedule, I’ll see you next weekend. Until then, if you enjoyed TIDBITS for Season 5, let me know by clicking on one of the ads. It puts a few pennies in my pocket and tells me you are still out there reading.

Enjoy,
KC
