LT89: No Place Like Home

Since this is a three-hour, two-part finale we will hold our analysis until the full episode is revealed, but we sure seem to be getting a lot of answers lately!

ISLANDS

The official Oceanic story says the six survivors lived on an island name “Membata” which is located near the island nation of Indonesia. The island name in the native language means “doubt” or “uncertainty”.

By the way, the official cover story concludes the survivors were lost for 108 days. According to sources, this portion of the latest episode was Day 100.

PREGNANCY STORY

We all realize the challenge for writers to keep all the facts straight. But with Kate’s pregnancy they don’t get a free pass because they were focused on it by having a reporter ask her about the timing of her pregnancy.

What some picked up then would be Sun’s pregnancy story which any doctor would pinpoint the time as after or near the flight crash date. The problem with that is that everyone close to Sun and Jin would know he is sterile (ok, at least their doctor knows which probably means daddy knows). Plus, if he died on impact, Jin wouldn’t be the father. He could be one of the two who didn’t make it but survived a short time. Otherwise, it means the official Oceanic story would have to suggest that the father of her baby is one of the male Oceanic 6/8. Either that or she had “mile high” experience with a flight attendant.

OTHERSVILLE

As viewers we come up with some substitute names for people and places we observe on the show including the housing complex where the Others lived. Producers have referred to this place as “New Otherton”. Sawyer used the same term to describe the place now in the show. It seems that places with “New” are usually named after an established city with the same suffix: New York, New London, etc. So does this mean that Otherton is the name of a prior established “city”?

WHITE LIES

When Sun arrives at the Freighter to see Michael standing there she asks how he got to New York City. He lies by saying he took Ben’s boat, stumbled upon an island with, you know, people. He then sells his boat for a ferry ride and so on. Michael’s explanation of events to Sayid and Desmond along with other timelines implies this is a lie. Why?

And did you catch how similar Michael’s lie was to the official Oceanic cover story? Coincidence? I think not!

MUSIC TO MY EARS

Two weeks in a row Geronimo Jackson has shown up. First on John Locke’s school locker and last week an album of the artist was spotted near the DJ’s table at Hurley’s surprise party:

And sharp eyes picked up that Hurley arrived home to the party and carried in a bag of Mr. Clutch Chicken Shack food.

HELIOGRAPH

The mirror used to signal someone is called a heliograph or signaling mirror. They were common for military purposes and are still found in survival kits. The proper use of the device is usually printed on the non-reflective side.

The portion of the signal from Ben we could observe said “seize”. We can assume this means Ben was signaling the Others at the Temple and were being instructed to seize someone or something. You might think that meant Kate and Jack but Ben wouldn’t know about their whereabouts, so it most likely meant The Orchid hatch.

WEDDING BELLS

Did you catch that Sayid was sporting a wedding ban which implies he married Nadia prior to the surprise party? The couple must not have waited long after being reunited. I suppose Nadia saw the news of the Oceanic Six and went to see him, but it seems a bit odd how she just shows back up in his life. Of course, I say that knowing that someone is going to have her killed and it makes me wonder of all these events weren’t staged in order to get Sayid in the emotional place “they” wanted him.

HEADING OF 305

A little research reveals the first time this number was offered…it was on Locke’s Jesus stick:

It almost seems like this was instructions to John with the reference to going north at a heading of 305 degrees. The Bible verse this appears to mention reads:

"Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."

In the context of the passage, this refers to baptism. In context of the show, who can really know what it means?

NUMBERS

This one is date, but worthy of mentioning: Juliet used 8 stitches to sew Jack back up.

The two boys at Hurley’s party were wearing jerseys with the numbers 23 and 42 on them.

15 presents were on the table at Hurley’s party. 16 guests had party hats on. 4 palm trees on the lanai (thank goodness for HGTV for now I know what a lanai is), and there were 8 helium balloons tied near the pool.

On the Camaro that Hurley’s father fixed up we saw the numbers on the odometer. Some of those numbers were visible on the tripometer portion which was not present in the 1970-72 model of this car. We must assume Cheech replaced it when fixing up the car.

ON DECK

We take a break this week as Grey’s Anatomy gets a two-hour season finale. Then LOST returns for the two-hour time slot beginning at 8 CST.

What plans, if any, does Sun have for her father's company?

What kind of settlement did Sun receive from the airline that she is able to purchase enough of Paik Industries to now control the company?

LT88: Cabin Fever Redux

WHO’S YOUR DADDY?

Richard Alpert standing at the window of the hospital room before Emily freaked out was odd to say the least. Alpert is obviously not like us since he never ages. And some are suggesting that Alpert, not Cooper, could be the daddy.

I quick look back on this topic reminds us that Emily, mom, told her son, John, that he was “immaculately conceived”. The strong reference was that he had no father. But perhaps she knew more then we have confirmed, but that makes this even stranger, so let’s not go there.

But John was not easily convinced and he hired a private detective would provide information on his father, Cooper, and revealed his mother spent some time in a mental hospital. Side note: Has Hurley mentioned his hospital name to Locke? I’m sure John would recognize that name since that is where Emily spent some time.

The thoughts in my head suggest that Emily is sort of like Charlize Theron in “The Devil’s Advocate”: aware enough to be driven crazy but not crazy enough to be aware. Um, what?

And some medical student would have to tell me if kidney’s demand a high DNA match to help determine if Cooper and John are really father and son.

NOTE: I went and googled it and you need same blood type, but not a DNA match. Looks like the jury is still out on who’s your daddy.

WHO’S YOUR MOMMY?

I’m referring to Claire. Is it safe to say that Claire is dead? Let’s assume the answer is yes and then think this through.

If she is dead, then we have to figure out when she died. It had to be sometime after the three, Miles, Sawyer and Claire, went to sleep at the camp site. I’m requiring that she die in a normal way like all people do. One idea is that after they closed their eyes to sleep, that Claire’s headache she complained about was some sort of concussion or brain hemorrhage. Recall that Miles offered to help her since it seemed she was a bit off her game. And if we recall Miles staring at her and the baby strangely, we might guess that Miles was seeing a dying person.

After the eyes closed for the night, Miles said he knew Claire walked off in the night. He didn’t follow her and I think it was because he knew she was dead. Or maybe on her last breath. Someone had to carry the baby to the base of that tree, so let’s move her natural death to after that point.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Locke stumbled upon her physical body. This means that the Claire that John saw was a spirit/angel/ghost/pick your term.

Throw in the fact that Christian’s casket was empty and it seems Jacob might need a body to manifest him self to others. In that case, Christian and Claire have to be physically dead, but their bodies aren’t lying on a ground (or in a casket) but are sitting in this cabin.

While you are processing this, also realize that Christian seems able to get around the island…but I get a strong feeling if anyone got close enough to touch him his hand would go right through the body!

KEAMY’S ITEM

What is that on Keamy’s arm? From all appearances and chatter the consensus is that it is some kind of bomb and it must pack quite a punch. Is this the method of “torching the island”? Is Keamy on a suicide mission? Sorry, but what amount of money would be any good if it meant killing yourself?



Before you answer, remind yourself that Michael is also on a suicide mission. He just can’t get it right for some island reason. Think people have information on Keamy that prompted him to sign-up for this? I’m getting a little Davy Jones’ Locker thing going on here where the dead have a last opportunity to redeem themselves.

HORACE GODSPEED

Just to kick start the brain we saw him first:

As the man who stopped to help Ben’s mother and father with her pregnancy problems outside of Portland.


As the man who later recruits Ben’s father to join the Dharma Initiative.

And now in Locke’s dream.

SECOND PROTOCOL

A close-up of this logo reveals it is the same one that Ben had on his parka in the Sahara. Most are guessing this is the Orchid hatch mentioned in a summer-time orientation film. We not seen this symbol prior in the actual show. But the summer "release" mentioned that Orchid had to do with time travel study.

THINGS YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED

Did you catch the poster in the locker John was occupying? It was of Geronimo Jackson...the same whose album Charlie found in the Swan hatch eons ago...and the same on the TV of the undercover kid who busted John in his pot farm.

For bonus points if you can recognize the picture behind Geronimo...it's British Explorer Sir Richard Burton. Connection unclear.

One of the best moments is when this picture came into play:

Do notice the man has but four fingers on his hand!

Let me see if I'm following the information provided in this episode. John was "known" at birth. Maybe Richard Alpert is a time traveller of sorts and knows the future...so he slips back to the past to visit the "chosen one".

Be warned though...someone suggested this week that Ben is still very much in control and simply is letting John hold the reins for the time being. Remember Ben has some dedicated friends at the temple including Richard.

Back to my thought: so at birth the Others know of John and again as a young boy when he selected the knife (any ideas what that was all about?), and again as a teen with Science Camp. Wouldn't the kid sort of get a feeling that he was "special". The flashbacks showed failure and outcast, but didn't he wonder where the images of black smoke in his head and hand came from? As an adult it seems John continues to play the fool and has no inkling of his destiny? Shoved around my foster sisters, his boss at the box company, his phone friend, his father - twice, and dear old mom. Not once he felt the force stir inside? Hmmm...

So finally an orderly visits and puts the walkabout in his head. We know the events from there. It just seems he is a fast learner.

Do notice how Richard rejected John once but then recruited him later. Did Richard recognize his earlier mistake? Did something happen off or on island to alter events? Does the knife really belong to Locke?

Speaking of camps, did you catch it was Mittlelos Science Camp? Same company that recruited Juliet and played a major role in the LOST summer game, The Lost Experience.

And finally, did you catch what Hurley mumbled when they woke him up? "Mallomars".

HOW CAREFUL DO WRITERS HAVE TO BE?

We know from previous information that John Locke was born in 1956. However, the song Emily was listening to wasn't released until 1957. Mistake or another wacky time loop? It could be a prop error, but when time is so important.

Let's chock it up as one of those Super Bowl mind teasers. You know the one - is the 1972 Dolphin Perfect Season really 1973, or was the Super Bowl played in January 72 and the season was in 71. Yeah, let's say the Buddy Holly thing was just one of those Super Bowl mind teasers and leave it at that.

THE ITEMS THAT ARE ALREADY YOURS

Which item interested you the most?

The one that seemed most out of place was the Book of Law. Yet, if we recall when Ecko was telling the story of the King Josiah to Locke, he mentioned the servant returned with the Book of Law. This is the common name given to the first five books of the Old Testament.

LT87: In Defense of LOST

CABIN FEVER AND RELIGIOUS FERVOR

A few fans of LOST are having a difficult time lately as the show seems to be getting closer and closer to that line. No, not the line that Mr. Friendly/Tom drew in the dirt that separated the Others from the Survivors. The line I’m referring to is that line between sci-fi and reality.

But before you claim that the show is going X-Files on us, let’s examine some themes. It has been clear from the start that LOST is examining the debate of science versus religion. However, it seems there might be three areas of examination.

Science – the producers promised at least a scientific theory would exist for every behavior. This approach opens the door for the show to push the envelope like Star Trek would do in days past. Let’s call this category “unproven science”.

Proven Science – of course, we have proven science involved like gravity which brought the plane to the ground.

Religion – faith-based beliefs. Believing in something you can’t prove. There is a reason they came up with the term “BLIND faith”.

See, many people are beginning to shake their head in disbelief in regard to time travel, island hopping and Smokey. Yet, those same people have zero evidence in their particular religious doctrines and are willing to embrace those views. How could anyone who calls them self “religious” actually debate the validity of anything then?

This edition of LOST TIDBITS will examine a few of those religious views that are quite mainstream in an effort to point out that if you/we are willing to believe THOSE things, how can sit a criticize the direction the writers of LOST are taking us? The hope is that the next time you are tempted to say, “That’s getting a little crazy and is a bit hard to believe”, that you remind yourself of a few religious matters that we routinely have no problem claiming to be…well…gospel.


PREGNANCY

While LOST has recently been pushing some strange concepts lately, we still need to give the writers a pat on the back for their consistency to themes such as pregnancy.

The past episode, Cabin Fever, tells us that Emily, John’s mother, was pregnant. Well, there is a common them of the show. And it consistent LOST fashion we are left with questions:

Is the father Mr. Cooper, John’s kidney recipient?

Is the father Richard Alpert, the never-aging Other?

Why isn’t she showing at 6-months?

In religious terms, 99% of Protestants and Catholics have no problem looking a friend in the eye (did I say eye?) and proclaiming their belief that a woman named Mary got pregnant without any father. I’m not suggesting that Emily experienced an immaculate conception, but I am saying the next time we are tempted to point a finger at LOST writers for the absurd, that we take a step back and remind ourselves of a few of the religious tenets we willing subscribe to!


PLANE CRASHES

Again in the opening scene, it begins with Emily playing a Buddy Holly song. This timestamps the events we are observing, but it should be noted that Buddy met his demise in a plane crash. Even more interesting to me, is that Holly, Valens and the rest died in a corn field in Iowa, my home state. It happens to be the state where Kate is also from.


RAIN

Again, we haven’t left the first scene and Emily runs outside in the rain to be hit by a vehicle (which is another reoccurring theme). We have all noticed how rain seems to be associated with bad things although a study is required to determine the exact connection between rain and events we observe.

In the Bible, the first time it rains is when mankind is wiped off the face of the Earth…except for an ark-builder, his family and a zoo. We’ve seen references to all these aspects in LOST. There are over 87 references to rain in the Bible.


MIRRORS

Again, we can’t get past the first scene without Emily using a mirror to put her lipstick on. In religious circles there is a concept called “The Bible Mirror”. In summary this theory places a mirror at year zero and separates B.C. from A.D. So what happens in 415 B.C. might mirror what happens in 415 A.D. This is interesting for no other reason that if we an determine how many years existed in B.C. (from creation to crucifixion), then we might be able to guess the date of our doomsday. In LOST terms, we would know the date of the Valenzetti Equation.

The entire Bible Mirror study is based on an interesting concept: time. If you are willing to substitute freely the word “days’ with “years”, you discover some interesting and predictable events of past and future. After all, the Bible itself gave us the concept when God tries to explain time in His eyes, “A day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day.” And it isn’t like LOST doesn’t have multiple timelines as the Freighter doctor ended up dying before he was dead. Huh?

FAITH TO MOVE MOUNTAINS

The Bible says that Christians have the ability through faith to move mountains. Literal or figuratively? I’ll let you decide. But LOST writers appear to be reading The Bible, - which when literally translated means “The Book” and it isn’t like LOST hasn’t included a couple of literary references.

So why does a nation of TV viewers who proclaim an inclination towards The Bible have problems with John being told to move the island? Oh, ye of little faith.

ANGELS

How strange to see our favorite lawyer, Abbadon (a name found in the Bible), meet John in physical therapy and encourage him to take a Walkabout. I suggest another Bible concept is being used on LOST: angels appear. In today’s vernacular we might call them ghosts.


MY THEORY

I suggest that LOST is using the Bible as its guidebook for a storyline. Perhaps during the summer break there will be time to examine one topic listed here at a time. I’d like to get a nice list of all the angel encounters found in the Bible and then compare to the usage of ghosts in LOST. Wouldn’t that be strange if we discovered that Michael might represent, well, Michael.

I’m not suggesting a re-telling of the Bible story, but a source. So if we read about the angel Gabriel, it might no longer surprise us that Nadia is played by Andrea Gabriel.

FYI: We have been told that Nadia has a sister named Melissa. Melissa is the same name of John’s foster sister who knocks over his board game of backgammon. Not sure where it fits in, but it also the name of my co-workers spouse. And his name is Michael. Coincidence or circumstance? Hmmm…


CLOSING ARGUMENT

I hope this edition of Lost Tidbits renews your faith in the show. And if you tend to lean towards science versus religion, even then we can boast that rarely a show comes along that leave my brain like mush quite like LOST can do week after week. That’s worth the price of admission right there.

LT86: Something Nice Back Home

LITERARY CONNECTIONS

Two weeks back the episode was the same name as a H.G. Wells book, “Shape of Things to Come”. The book was published in 1933 and is not a novel as much as history book of the future as Wells saw it with the world ending in 2106. It contains a few predictions that are very similar to what real-life events came to pass. In summary:

The book is dominated by Wells's belief in a world state as the solution to mankind's problems. Wells successfully predicted the Second World War, although he envisaged it dragging on into the 1960s, being finally ended only by a devastating plague that almost destroys civilisation. Wells then envisages a benevolent dictatorship - 'The Dictatorship of the Air' - arising from the controllers of the world's surviving transportation systems (the only people with global power). This dictatorship promotes science, enforces English as a global lingua franca, and eradicates all religion, setting the world on the route to a peaceful utopia. When the dictatorship finds it necessary to kill political opponents, the condemned persons are given a chance to emulate the ancient philosophers Socrates and Seneca and take a poison tablet in a congenial environment of their choice.


DRINK UP

If you recall when Juliet was recruited she shows up at an airport whose name was an anagram about time. They get her to drink her “travel beverage” which is an odd yellow color that we have seen in many scenes. She passes out and the sub takes her to the island. Well, keen eyes have noticed that when Ben travels to the Sahara Desert he seems to vomit the same color of beverage. Yeah, I know and don’t ask.


EYES WIDE OPEN

You have to love the theme of beginning scenes with the focus on the eye. It seems we had the answer when Desmond was flashed by the Doc on the Freighter…and when Daniel was looking that the light in his college lab…and so on. Something about a light can trigger the flashback and flashfoward. Then it seems a bit strange to keep focusing on it unless we missed some detail.

Speaking of details…when Jack flashes forward to living with Kate and gets up in the morning…shouldn’t he have a scar when his appendectomy was performed? Relax, it was there. This sort of shoots a hole in the theory that Hurley is dreaming this stuff up, since he can’t dream what he doesn’t know. Of course, if the WHOLE thing is a dream then he does know. Doesn’t he? Let’s move on…


WHERE WERE YOU TODAY?

Jack asks, Kate begs a free pass and Jack asks again, “Where were you today?” Something for Sawyer is her reply. Hmmm…me thinks it was something to do with his daughter being the show focuses on family themes. Clementine was her name, I think.

Or to see Cassidy maybe.

Or she is sneaking out to have an affair as hinted in show’s past with Jack and his spouse. Kate and Christian? Creepy.

Or she is doing what another Oceanic 6 is doing, working for Ben.
Which answer would be something that Kate wouldn’t want to share? And why after all this do they still keep secrets? Recall that Jack didn’t tell Kate about visiting Hurley. Trust people, trust.


ARTWORK

Did you notice the artwork on Kate’s refrig?

It matches the artwork from Hurley’s time in the hospital when playing Connect Four with the Lenny who mumbled the numbers all day long.

Does this mean Aaron makes the same artwork as Hurley’s pals? Or does this mean Kate visited Hurley in the hospital?


CONNECTIONS

We have always assumed this, but it was confirmed…Jack is related to Claire and Aaron. And it also means he knows now.


PARTY LINES

I’m at a party this past week and someone enters the room and says, “I see drunk people”. That reminded me of “I see dead people”. That reminded me of Miles.

We know Miles is some sort of Ghost Whisperer, so he was able to “see” Danielle and Karl. He didn’t say he saw Christian Shepherd, but he alluded to it by saying “she wasn’t along, she left with somebody”.

So how about walking Miles around all the grave sites and getting some information from the dead?

The audio Miles heard from the two graves was in reverse. I’ve heard it and it contains the sounds of shots being fired at them with silencers and Danielle clearly says, “We should go.” It appears to be the actual sound clip immediately after Karl dies and we hear Alex – who isn’t buried there. What we learn is that Miles knows their names although they are not spoken, Karl is dead and the audio he hears is backwards. Hmmm…if I only had a audio mirror of sorts!


RAISED BY ANOTHER

In episode past we learn that Claire is not to let anyone but she is to raise Aaron. And now Charlie sends Jack a message via Christian, “You’re not supposed to raise him Jack”. Does this mean Kate isn’t to raise Aaron either? Does this mean Charlie isn’t imaginary after all?

I found the episode from the past and can’t tell if it is “he is not to be raised by another” or “he is not to be raise by an Other”. Did Jack become an Other along the way?


WATER MAN

Recall when Jack leaves Aaron’s room after a story that he and Kate stop in the hallway. I know where most of your eyes were as he carried her off, but you should have been looking at the wall:

You have to admit the comparison is pretty close to what Jack would see on the island.

And the book that Jack was reading to Aaron? Alice in Wonderland, of course! Speaking of the Looking Glass – the old British word for mirror. And the name of a Dharma hatch. By the way, when Kate was holding the mirror during surgery, does anyone else think Juliet dismissed her in order to place some implant inside of Jack? That would mean Bernard is in on this, too.


BASEBALL GAME

Remember the story Jack was reading about the Yankees beating the Red Sox? That game description was actually played on August 30, 2007.


CHRISTIAN

This ghost keeps popping up all over the place. You have to love his affinity for white tennis shoes in a suit. Why on earth would Claire leave Aaron and walk off with Christian?

Consider that Claire is the one to raise her child and yet Christian convinces her somehow to leave Aaron behind. To me that means Christian = bad.

Why are Hurley and Jack the only two haunted by dead people as Oceanic 6 members?


X-RAYS

Did you notice the tumor that Jack was studying was the same position as Ben’s? Hmmm…

And don’t overlook the fact that Jack says a name into his recorder before the fire alarm battery begins to beep. The name, “Ryan Laker”. Meaning? You tell me.


QUESTIONS LEFT ON MY MIND

Why did Ben and Jack get sick on Mysterious Island?

Is Claire dead?

Did Jin guarantee a seat on the chopper for Sun and his burial site is just a memorial?

Is Smokey a wimp?

LT85: Widmore and Ben Face Off

MEET WHO?

The name on the passport is "Kevin Johnson" and the passport number is 012153 – the same as we saw on one of Ben’s passports in his secret room – the Swiss passport.

The birth date is listed as July 08, 1963.
The expiration date is listed as July 01, 2009.

The nurse in Michael’s hospital room after his attempted suicide with the car is the same nurse that spoke to Michael back in Season 1 and told him the bad penguin joke. Ok, another cold weather reference. And we have another repeat encounter with a very obscure character that Michael obviously forgets her (but clearly remembers his first dream of seeing Libby). Let’s not forget the first time the nurse and Michael met it was after getting hit by a car and now this time a car was the weapon of choice. But that pesky island just won’t the man die!

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Not the Willie Nelson song, but the book by Jack Kerouac. The major influence on Kerouac’s semi-auto-biographical work, “On the Road”, is a character named Dean Moriarty – the same name Ben used on this passport we found in his secret room…and used on his travel’s to Sayid’s funeral. The opening paragraph states that "with the coming of Dean Moriarty began the part of my life you could call my life on the road."

Another major character in the book is Sal whose best friend is the city (island anyone?). Kerouac tells us that a “tremendous thing happened" (incident anyone?) and that the meeting of Dean was a meeting between “the holy con-man (several candidates anyone?) with the shining mind (Ben?), and the sorrowful poetic con-man with the dark mind that is Carlo Marx (Locke?)."

HERE’S SMOKEY

So Ben can summon Smokey! Not sure I feel he has complete control over it, but he did stand there like he knew it wouldn’t turn on him. Maybe he can give it some “scent” to follow – yeah, I still think Smokey is somehow related to a dog.

But “control” would be too strong of a word, since we know Smokey went out and killed the pilot of Flight 815 on Day 1 with motivation or direction it seems.

When Smokey came barreling through Othersville, did it remind you a bit of that Coors Lite train a coming? And many swear that either Smokey had a face when it first approaches or it was one of those flashes of memory.

BEN CAVE

Opportunity is sometimes defined as when one door closes, another is opened. Well, then we have lots of opportunities as I’ve never seen such a small room with so many doors! But the one with interest is the one that leads to the Ben Cave.

First, he needs a maid as that place is filthy!

Second, we need someone to interpret those symbols. I’m reminded of the 108 minute clock and those Egyptian symbols.

Third, when we speak of odd TV everyone should include David Lynch of Twin Peaks fame. Remember this image from that show’s conclusion? Yeah, I happened to be watching that series on DVD:

ODDS AND ENDS

Ben speaks Turkish and Arabic when trying to communicate with the two horsemen in the desert. The two horsemen speak to each other and one says, “He has no trail.” The other one answers, “Where did he come from? Down from the sky?”

Recall that in the future (I think) Jack will not be able to get drugs without a prescription and of course he can’t write his own. On the island, it’s “Mother’s Little Helper” anytime he wants it.So, was it really an antibiotic? Sharp eyes say YES. It reads Amoxicillin on the label and anyone with kids and ear aches know this stuff.

We learn the Keamy’s full name is Martin Christopher Keamy. In Mayan astrology the word pronounced the same as Keamy stands for death.

Check out the real-life organization named Blackwater Worldwide which is a private security firm. Look for their company logo and see if it reminds you of anything!

OVERDRESSED

Could it start any stranger with Ben over-dressed for desert travel?

Notice the name, Halliwax. Yeah, the same name used by Dr. Marvin Candle in the Orchid video released during the summer at Comic Con. Everyone caught the fact that the same scientist is in all the videos but uses a different name each time (not to mention his arm is sometimes missing). The flame trend in the name has been noticed as well: candle, wax and um…can’t recall the third so just go with me on that.

We can then draw a few conclusions: Dr. Candle had a parka which indicates cold weather location. Ben now has Dr. Candle’s jacket. So, Dr. Candle is cold. HA!

And peek close at the Dharma logo – we have a new one!

As for the smoking jacket, we have the strong idea that Ben can jump time, but perhaps not control it as well as he would like.

And before I leave this subject…did you notice that Ben landed in the Sahara with an injured arm? Yeah, same one Candle/Halliwax loses in future videos. He is him?

DOCTOR MY WORLD

When the doctor washes up on shore we have Bernard calling out…funny how only Jack and Kate first respond. (NOTE: We also find only the main characters slip into Ben’s house…it would be nice to see a Mary or a Steve get a few scenes of bewilderment.).

Anyway, the Morse code says the Doc is fine. Maybe we have two doctors and one is cut-throat (pun intended) and the other is fine on board the freighter. And when did we start requiring dentists know Morse code? Good stuff.

Here is how two doctors might work: someone cuts his throat and throws him overboard. His body floats, but not at that right heading so it time travels itself on shore. So the Doc is alive on board and someone is going to slit his throat in the future? Lost yet?

DID YOU MISS THIS?

Indeed Ben has been to Tunisia before as he is a preferred guest at the hotel. This is the same place where Charlotte examines the polar bear and finds a Dharma collar on the skeleton. Did Ben bring a pet with him on one of his teleportation trips?

Did you pick up the piece Ben was playing on the piano? It was Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Prelude in C-Sharp Minor.” Its significance is that among its various titles are “The Burning of Moscow” and “The Day of Judgment.” But you have got to love a guy who keeps a weapon in his piano bench. Is this the same piano Jack was playing?

To be fair to the writers who planned three quick deaths even with Sawyer hollering “Get back inside”, these actors HAVE been on previous episodes. Yes, in the background, but two attended Nikki and Paulo’s funeral among other scenes. So, at least they weren’t complete unknowns.

GAMES PEOPLE PLAY

Some wonder why I love this show as much as I do…well, for starters, they keep referring to things I enjoy like this:

The game is called Risk and is about world domination. Notice how Hurley whines about Australia being the key to victory in this game (many would actually debate that Australia is key to getting at least second place in the game, but that debate is for another day).

CALLING YOUR BLUFF

Out of all the action in the last episode, I think this mind game that ended in tragedy was the most interesting. Of course, I’m dying to find out the REAL relationship with Ben and Alex/Danielle. Yikes, did I just saying “dying”?

The only hope for fans of Alex is that in some Star Wars – Obi Wan kind of way, she will actually make the “force” grow stronger by her death. And as for Keamy…well, I wouldn’t want to be in his boots when Ben catches up to him.

LT84: Welcome Back - New Episode

WHY IS AARON WITH KATE?

Consider that Claire leave the island for reasons unknown and to give Aaron a chance at life, she asks one of the Oceanic 6 to care for the baby. Now remember that Michael and Walt seem to have to hide their identities and this could be the case of Aaron. It would be difficult to hide a blond child with a Korean O6 (Sun), or Hispanic O6 (Hurley), or Iraqi O6 (Sayid). This leaves Kate and Jack as clear options and for whatever reason Jack has, he doesn't want anything to do with his nephew.

THE DAY IN THE LIFE

You know life isn't so bad. I got this job which isn't found just anywhere. For starters, it's on an island in the tropics. Great living quarters, good food and sunshine. My work here is pretty routine - I write computer programs for the finance department. But the pay is great, I save most of it, and it feels like it is some sort of Peace Corps thing.

Then one day this plane flies over head and breaks apart directly over our island. But that's not the strange thing. The stranger thing was how our leader just flipped out. Freaked. One minute he is this confident, if not a bit demanding, leader and the next he's halting all of our project work. Instead of building that runway, we now guard prisoners. Instead of researching chemical gas deployment, we now release chemical gas deployment. We lose our great houses and running water for a group of caves among some old ruins called the "temple".

Life isn't so great.

THE ODD STUFF

Speaking of gas...could it be the cause of some of the strange happenings on Mysterious Island?

One could imagine they have a variety of gases to choose from and some might be causing Kate's horse to appear. Of course, it did seem to have form and mass...but you get my drift.

Or maybe it is what they drink.
